Supporting Our Community
The Heart of Greenwich Rugby Club
At Greenwich Rugby Club (GRFC), rugby is just the beginning. We are proud to be one of the very few clubs in the region that actively shares its pitch and facilities with the wider community. Our players are local. Our members are local. Our future is local. And that’s exactly why giving back sits at the very core of everything we do.
Veterans Breakfast Club – A Safe Space for Those Who Served
Every second Thursday of the month, GRFC opens its doors to host the Veterans Breakfast Club. We provide breakfast and, more importantly, a warm, welcoming and supportive environment for ex-service personnel.
This initiative offers veterans a safe place to connect, talk and support one another — reinforcing our commitment to those who have served our country. It is one of the club’s proudest ongoing community contributions.

Supporting the Duke of Edinburgh's Award
We are proud to support participants completing their Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. One of our junior “Pirates” is currently undertaking his award, with GRFC providing hands-on opportunities through coaching support and assisting in the setup and delivery of junior sessions.
By helping young people develop leadership, responsibility and teamwork skills, we are investing directly in the next generation — both on and off the pitch.
Empowering Young People – Cub Scouts & Girl Guides
GRFC recently welcomed over 40 members of the 36th Cub Scouts group to the club, delivering structured coaching and activities to help them achieve their badge goals.
The event was such a success that several Cubs returned the following week to join our junior teams — continuing their scouting journey while becoming part of the GRFC family. Supporting youth development and building confidence in young people is something we are deeply passionate about.
Community Safety – Public Access Defibrillator
GRFC proudly funded the purchase of a life-saving defibrillator, installed in partnership with The Old Mill public house.
By placing the defibrillator at The Old Mill — a central location with extended opening hours — we have ensured that this vital piece of emergency equipment is accessible to as many members of the community as possible, for as many hours of the day as possible. This initiative reflects our belief that community wellbeing extends far beyond the rugby pitch.
Fundraising for Greenwich & Bexley Community Hospice
GRFC has proudly organised and supported multiple fundraising events for Greenwich Hospice, an organisation that provides vital care and support to patients and families during their most difficult times.
Our members consistently step forward to raise funds, awareness and support for this incredible local charity — demonstrating the strength of our community spirit.
International Engagement – Welcoming Global Players
We were recently approached by two French university students studying in the UK who wished to immerse themselves in British sporting culture. They joined us to assist with junior coaching — and quickly became valued members of the club.
So warmly were they welcomed that they invited friends to join and became regular players for the season. At GRFC, inclusivity, friendship and opportunity know no borders.

Building Bonds Through Rugby Tours
GRFC tours have taken us across the UK and Europe — including France, Spain, Portugal and most recently to the rugby heartland of Wales.
These tours, often organised by members returning to their hometown clubs, strengthen relationships, build lifelong friendships and promote the spirit of rugby far beyond Greenwich. We look forward to continuing these traditions and welcoming our touring friends in return.
A Club That Backs Its People
Beyond organised initiatives, many of our players and members undertake personal charity challenges — supporting medical services, care providers and causes close to their hearts. As a club, we stand behind them — promoting their efforts, raising awareness and contributing wherever we can.
More Than A Rugby Club
Greenwich Rugby Club is more than a sports team.
We are a community hub.
A supporter of veterans.
A champion of youth development.
A promoter of safety.
A fundraiser for vital care services.
A welcoming home for all.
If you would like to partner with us, support our charitable initiatives, or become part of a club that truly gives back — we would love to hear from you.
Greenwich Rugby Club – Proudly Local. Proudly Community. Proudly Giving Back.
